Save Money by Grooming Your Dog at Home

Dog grooming is an essential practice for caring for your canine companion and their appearance. Grooming satisfies the needs of keeping your pet looking beautiful as well as for showing your dog. It is not a luxury; it's a health requirement. Without keeping him properly groomed on a regular basis some severe medical conditions can arise. Also, grooming your dog regularly will help you spot any medical conditions he may have.

Grooming your dog typically entails not only cutting or shaving his fur but also includes checking his ears, cleaning his teeth, trimming his nails, and cutting/styling your dog's coat to your liking. All of these steps are very easy to do and, while professionals, groomers do charge quite a bit of money. Instead of spending the gas money, money to pay a groomer to tend to your dog's grooming needs, and possibly getting sucked into buying more than what you've intended on buying you can groom your dog at home without spending every last penny you have in your wallet.

There are many books out there that focus on the ins and outs of grooming dogs of the breed you own. If you are willing to spend a few hours reading books specifically geared towards grooming your breed of dog you will be able to handle the basic grooming steps right in the comfort of your home. With this being said here are the steps to groom your dog at home and for saving money keeping your dog healthy and looking stunning.

The first thing you must do when grooming your dog is brushing out their coat. Once you have completely brushed out their fur and managed to smooth out any tangled knots, it's time to begin clipping your dog's fur. You will need electric clippers, grooming shears, and combs. Using these tools you will be able to essentially "cut your dog's hair" to the desired length and style you choose. After thoroughly brushing out your dog's fur, clipping and styling his coat it is time to cut your dog's nails, clean out their ears, bathe your dog, and blow-dry your dog. Once you have blow-dried your dog's fur finish it off by giving it a final clip and a style.

Grooming your dog sounds easy but it is all about skill and knowing what grooming steps to take for different breeds of dogs. What may work on a poodle may not work on a sheepdog. Doing your research to find out what grooming methods are best for the breed of dog you have will make your dog grooming sessions with your canine companion run much more smoothly. It makes it easier on you and your dog and you can bond with your dog while grooming them. It costs a lot of money to hire a professional; if you are willing to take the time to do your research you can save a ton of money by grooming your dog in your own home.
